Career Growth

There are many career paths you could take in disability support. Other related jobs include a behavioural support officer, personal care assistant, and personnel and training officer. Disability work experience will grow your skills and explore other roles in health care such as nursing, social sciences or aged care.

Qualifications & Training

We offer training for disability supports such as manual handling, bowel management and catheter care. Work with us while completing your Certificate III or IV in Disability and/or Mental Health. You will be given care plans to work with your clients by our team to feel fully supported.

Our Support Worker role at The Disability Company is a Causal position, although there is potential to gain part time and even full-time hours with us. We offer permanent shifts as well as once off/cover shifts.

We use an app called Deputy here at The Disability Company, we offer shifts through this app and have an amazing care team that may also call to see if you are interested in a certain shift!

Our clients here at The Disability Company have great personalities, with many hobbies and goals. Our clients have a range of special needs, including physical disabilities, but mainly intellectual, psychosocial and dual disability. They are a broad mixture of ages, genders, and cultural backgrounds.

As a Support Worker no day will look the same! This is why so many people love the job. If you are working with a client who requires a community access shift you may be assisting with food shopping, taking them to appointments, going to the beach, movies or for a walk in the park with our clients, there are many things you can get up to with your client. If you are supporting our clients for a self-care shift, this sometimes looks like helping them meal prep, enjoying arts and crafts, assisting with personal care, performing domestic duties, and providing companionship.

You do not need a qualification to be a Disability Support Worker, it is however very favourable to have a qualification, personal or professional experience in the field.
