Have Questions? We Have Answers!

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of NDIS support that provides assistance with daily living tasks for people with disabilities who need ongoing support. The primary goal of SIL is to promote independence and autonomy for participants while also ensuring they receive the help they need to manage everyday activities.

SIL is generally provided in shared living arrangements, but it can also be available for individuals living on their own or with family, depending on their age and level of need.

SIL is available to NDIS participants who require 24/7 support or regular assistance with daily living tasks. Eligibility is determined through an NDIS assessment based on the level of support required. You may also be required to obtain reports from other allied health professionals.

  • SIL (Supported Independent Living): Long-term housing support where participants live independently with ongoing daily assistance from support staff. SIL covers the support services but does not cover the cost of housing itself.
  • STA (Short-Term Accommodation, also known as Respite Care): Temporary accommodation that provides short-term support for participants and relief for caregivers. This is usually for a few days to a few weeks.
  • SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation): SDA refers to specially designed housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. This funding helps cover the cost of the home itself, but residents still need SIL funding for daily support.

We offer SIL housing in various locations across Victoria, including:

  • Melbourne City & Surrounds
  • North & South East Melbourne
  • Mornington Peninsula
  • Gippsland & Phillip Island
  • You tell us where you would like to live and we will search for suitable accommodation.

This is dependent on what you have been funded for but usually NDIS participants are funded at 1 staff member to 3 clients ratio. We believe in a harmonious living environment and will never place you with people that you wouldn’t get along with.

No problem! Just reach out to us, and we’ll work with you to find the best fit. We will never place you in a home unless we genuinely believe it’s a place where you will thrive.

Here at The Disability Company, we pride ourselves on creating homes for our clients. We believe that our participants can thrive with the right environment and support. Through our carefully structured planning process, our harmonious living goals and consistent check ins we can achieve a lifestyle for our clients that is second to none
